The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in. We’ve had Halloween and Bonfire Night. The Fall Line Skiing Magazine Gear Guide 2025 is on the shelves and the Northern and London Show Shows have prepped and primed us for another sensational season in the mountains of the Northern Hemisphere.
WHAT HAVE YOU MISSED OVER THE SUMMER?
SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
It was a ‘Meatloaf’ Season south of the Equator with 2 of the 3 destinations having great conditions, which ain’t bad! Australia was the one losing out with the majority of resorts having to end their seasons prematurely after surviving on mostly man-made snow for most of their Winter. NZ had a consistently good season with regular snowfalls from June through to September with some epic days on snow.

S America was the big winnner with a long and deep season and some all-time days on the slopes. It was snowiest start to the season since the 1990s in Chile and Argentina with huge May and June snowfalls which continued right through until the end of September.

NORTHERN HEMISPHERE
The European Glacier Summer Ski season started well after big snowfalls in late March, April and May but was decent at best for much of July and August with sunshine and high temperatures eating into the snowpack.
September saw spectacular snowfall across the Alps with 50cm to 1m of new snow offering up late Summer powder turns in Austria

Cool temperatures and a 53cm storm total allowed them to open for their 85th Winter Season on Tuesday 22 October. Check it out on Facebook.
And the snow continues to fall, and conditions are excellent.

There’s no appreciable precipitation forecast for the Alps the first part of this week, but the freezing level is set to drop to around 2,000m preserving existing conditions and allowing increased snowmaking.
It’s a similar situation in the Nordic countries for the next 3-4 days.
Most of the Canadian and US resorts will see continued low temperatures and light precipitation for the first half of the week, with the Pacific Northwest States of Oregeon and Washington and Western Canada expecting between 30-50cm of new snowfall.
