Restaurants are one of Telluride’s many great strengths. Rustico Ristorant is Italian-owned and offers fresh-made pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and one of the largest selections of Italian wines in Colorado. Brown Dog (+1 970 728 8046) is the hippest pizza joint in town. Honga’s Lotus Petal features an extensive selection of Pan-Asian cuisine. Bluepoint Grill & Noir Bar, a block from the gondola base, is a hip seafood and steak house. Harmon’s (+1 970 728 3773), located in Telluride’s historic train depot, serves modern American cuisine.
Eating up the mountain
Up at The Mountain Village is Allred’s, a private club by day but open to all at night. It provides regional American dishes and fine wines, Try the Maine lobster bisque Asian and the spiced Muscovy duck. La Piazza, also in Mountain Village, is authentic northern Italian.
Make sure the Gorrono Ranch (+1 970 728 6900) features in your lunch plans – located under lift 4, next to the Misty Malden run. It’s one of our favourite mountain restaurants in the world – a kickabout kind of place with live music, barbecues, and lots of deckchairs for general hanging out. It’s not too big, the atmosphere’s nice and chilled, and we can’t help wondering – why don’t more American resorts have places like this?
