Telluride’s nighlife is improving – but don’t expect a scene to rival the good ol’, bad ‘ol days of Butch Cassidy and Diamond Tooth Leona.
Telluride is a twin-site resort, and anyone who enjoys a drink or two when the lifts shut should be based in the old town rather than the Mountain Village. It’s where you’ll find all the historic, Wild-West architecture, and some cute, well-preserved saloons.
Best bar up the mountain is the Tomboy Tavern (+1 970 728 7467) which features a wraparound bar and big screen TVs. Next stop is in the old town at the bar of the New Sheridan hotel (built in 1895), followed by the Smuggler’s Brewpub – and, hey presto, you’ve got the makings of a proper bar crawl. Later on, Fly Me To The Moon Saloon has a regular programme of live music on the weekends, with shows starting at 9.30pm. Past performers here include Sheryl Crow and Jack Johnson.
