Snow Report Thursday 30 January 2025
In today’s report we catch up on conditions across Europe, North America and Asia with heavy snowfall across the Alps and Japan.
Where’s the snow going to land next? We’ve scoured the internet to give you the best recommendations.
Now on with the snow!
Snow Report
After rain to 1,500m across most of the Alps on Monday, the mercury dropped and the skies were filled with snowflakes.
Over a 48 hr period 35cm of new snow fell in St Anton, Austria; 58cm in Solda, Italy; 65cm in Diavolezza-Lagalb, Switzerland; and a whopping 71cm in Orelle, France.
But that heavy snowfall in a short period of time sitting on a hard, established layer saw the avalanche risk raise to Level 4 (out of a maximum of 5) and remote and human triggered avalanches beyond the ski area boundaries and in the case of Solda, Italy right beside the lifts.
Thankfully no-one was buried or injured in this incident.

Where To Ski
If you can drop everything and book a last minute trip then head to the Alps for a powder filled long weekend with Prato Nevoso, Italy expecting deep turns all over the mountain.
The Nordic countries are still a good bet with cold temperatures preserving the powder which fell this week.
Have the time to head further afield? Then it has to be the resorts on Hokkaido, Japan where normal service has resumed.
