What Is the Dolomites Rangers Initiative?

From June to September, four uniformed rangers will patrol the picturesque hiking and biking trails of Val Gardena, doling out safety tips, route updates, and gentle nudges for respectful mountain behaviour. Think of them as a cross between Bear Grylls and your local park warden, but with a South Tyrolean twist.

These roving rangers won’t just be handing out trail maps and weather reports. They’re trained in first aid, ready to assist in emergencies, and are on the lookout for illegal camping and parking. One ranger has already been on the job around Passo Gardena and Passo Sella, successfully curbing rogue campers and unruly parking over the past two years.

Keeping Val Gardena Wild and Wonderful

Backed by the Val Gardena Tourism Board, the three valley municipalities, the Seceda cable car, and the lift operators’ association, this pilot project aims to protect the unique flora and fauna of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, while making the mountain experience better for everyone.

Expect to spot the rangers across Selva, Santa Cristina and Ortisei. They’ll be working hand-in-hand with local authorities, the forest service, and the Judacrëp Gherdëina mountain rescue team, ensuring your alpine adventures are as safe and sustainable as they are scenic.
