World Snow Forecast For The Next 3-4 Days
After impressive snowfall across much of the Alps to start the month, Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland will enjoy a high pressure system bringing sunshine and warmer temperatures over the next 3-4 days.
The freezing level will slowly climb to 3,000m by Monday with freeze thaw conditions below that level and great Spring skiing in the alpine.
Resorts in Andorra and the French & Spanish Pyrenees will see more volatile conditions with rain below 2,800m and the chance of 5-10cm above that level over the next 3-4 days.
Freeze thaw conditions will quickly turn to snowfall on Saturday evening in Central and Eastern Europe with 5-10cm of snowfall above 1,000m across much of the region. Popova Shapka, North Macedonia could see 25-30cm.
Further East the Georgian and Turkish resorts will see the freezing level dropping to 2,300m bringing 10-15cm of new snow above that level and rain in the village. Tetnuldi, Georgia could see 30-35cm.
Temperatures will hover around freezing in the Nordic Countries of Finland, Norway and Sweden with freeze thaw conditions and 5-10cm of snowfall on the highest peaks. Narvik, Norway is expecting 70-75cm of new snow.
It will be calm at the Canadian resorts of Alberta and British Columbia with below freezing temperatures and clear skies. Whistler Blackcomb could see a storm system moving in on Sunday bringing 15-20cm above mid-mountain.
The temperatures will drop on the East Coast of Canada with freeze thaw conditions and the chance of 5-10cm of new snow up high.
April has started cold and snowy at the Western US resorts with 10-15cm forecast above 2,000m. Copper Mountain, Colorado is expecting 25-30cm.
After close to 1m of snowfall since our last report the West Coast resorts of California will see clearer skies and snow flurries through Monday.
The Oregon and Washington resorts will see 10-15cm above 1,500m on Sunday evening with heavy rain at village level.
It will be a wet end to the week on the East Coast of the United States with heavy rain top to bottom turning to snowfall above mid-mountain on Saturday. Wildcat Mountain, New Hampshire could see 15-20cm of new snow.
Spring has sprung on Japan’s main island of Honshu bringing sunshine, freeze thaw conditions, and light rain below mid-mountain but 5-10cm of new snow above that.
It’s cooler further North on the island of Hokkaido with 5-10cm forecast above 500m. Kiroro and Asahidake are expecting 15-20cm over the weekend.
Where To Ski
There will be very good Spring skiing across the Alps but head to north facing slopes above 2,000m for the best conditions.
The Austrian resorts of Hinterstoder, Gerlos and Hochkonig; Bonneval-sur-Arc in France; and Prato Nevoso in Italy should see the powder lasting through to the weekend.
Tetnuldi, Georgia is the best choice out East with snow forecast through to mid-April.
As has been the case for most of the Winter, Narvik is the go to destination up North.
Further afield a Spring trip to Colorado or California, USA is still definitely worth the travel time.
