In the early days of Kicking Horse, The Mad Trapper Pub (+1 250 344 6661) in Golden was the only establishment to rise to the evening needs of skiers and snowboarders. But apres-ski options have improved at the base area, with the Peaks Bar & Grill, and the Copper Horse Lodge offering ‘well stocked bars and dining’. The Highland Pub serves ‘basic meals including fish and chips – and stocks a huge range of single malts.’ The Vagabond Lodge, near the ski area base, has a bar and games room. The Local Hero Western pub is located in Winston Lodge near the base.
However, you must remember this is a small resort in the middle of nowhere. At the weekends it gets lively at night, but mid-week, in the middle of January, you’d better bring your own drinking buddies. Or a good book.
