There’s an annual cross-country skiing festival – Haut Giffre Festi’Nordic – at the end of January each year, and at the beginning of March the Morillon Carnival is celebrated by bringing together the whole village to enjoy a giant omelette.
In Sixt things are quieter still. La Buvette du Boret (+33 660 16 27 55) is the main offering, and the other highlight is at 6.30pm on Sundays when the Tourist Office invites visitors for a welcome vin chaud and on Thursdays there is tomme cheese-making at Cash’ta (+33 450 90 10 97). Non-skiing activities include mountain walks, snowshoe outings, dog-sledding, a via-ferrata (a type of ladder fixed directly onto the rock), and ice-waterfall climbing (see Where to Learn for more details of this).
