Schischule Engelberg is Engelberg’s main school – but it’s not without competition. Prime Engelberg runs an innovative programme of courses and clinics – one of which is a two-and-a-half hour tour of the resort aimed at first-time visitors, which in 2013 cost 40CHF. It’s the kind of inexpensive introduction to the resort which every ski school should offer. One-day avalanche-awareness courses cost 150CHF. Activ Snow Team is Engelberg’s third ski school and like its rivals offers a plenty of off-piste guiding and tuition as well as lessons aimed at beginners and intermediates.
If all you need is a guide for one of the big off-piste descents, then UIAGM-qualified Remo Baltermia is your man.
Facilities for families
There is babysitting from six months to two years, a non-ski kindergarten from two years and ski lessons from three, all through Skischule Engelberg-Titlis, located at the bottom of the Titlis cable-cars. Globi’s Winterland offers a child-friendly learning environment with two drag-lifts, two magic carpets, and a ski carousel. Hotel Edelweiss, Aktivhotel Terrace and Ramada Hotel Regina Titlis all have creches.
As far as other activities go, families can try tobogganing on a choice of runs. You can also go snowshoeing or ride a converted electric motorbike at SnowXPark.
