Big Lift Upgrades and a Smart Slope Connection in Sölden: Winter 2025/26
Sölden is already a heavyweight in the world of skiing. With two glacier areas, World Cup pedigree, and Austria’s longest descent, it’s the kind of place where ski dreams come true. And now, thanks to a massive infrastructure upgrade from Bergbahnen Sölden, the resort is set to become faster, more connected, and even more beginner-friendly by winter 2025/26.
High-Tech Chairlifts: Faster, Smoother, Smarter
The “Einzeiger” Gets an Upgrade
Say goodbye to the old “Einzeiger” lift. This workhorse is being replaced by a next-gen 8-seater chairlift packed with comfort and safety features that would make even a Bond villain jealous. Think sleek design, weather protection hoods, and kid-safe security bars. Even better, it’ll be able to whisk up to 4,000 skiers an hour to the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glacier slopes.
Einzeiger Lift Highlights:
-
Speedy connections to glacier terrain and Schwarzkogel’s pistes 24 & 25
-
Only 3.5 minutes ride time
-
Built for comfort and stability, even in windy conditions
-
Live by November 2025
The Game-Changing Slope Connection
Arguably the most exciting change? A smart new slope link between pistes 7 and 22. This new piste will tie together the four main valley stations—Gaislachkogl, Sölden Center, Postplatz, and Giggijoch—into one seamless circuit.
That means you can now ski the entire area without stepping on a bus or shuttle, even if the high mountain lifts are down due to wind. It’s also a big win for beginners, who can now cruise from Hochsölden to Grünwald entirely on blue runs, avoiding the steepest sections of slopes 7 and 22.
New Slope Facts:
-
Adds 2.13 hectares of skiable terrain
-
Total length: 1,800m with a gentle 10% gradient
-
32 snow guns and a 2.75km snow pipe ensure great coverage
-
Ski-in/ski-out access to all four valleys
-
Potential for year-round use, including summer bike trails
This slope isn’t just a clever connector. It’s a lifeline on windy days and a brilliant option for nervous intermediates who’d rather bypass the steep stuff. It even makes evacuations quicker. Smart.
Silberbrünnl 2.0: AI Meets Alpine
The beloved Silberbrünnl lift at Giggijoch is also going big. The new version will feature 8-seater chairs, a staggering 3,800 people/hour capacity, and… wait for it… artificial intelligence. The system will detect safety issues in real time, helping lift ops stay ahead of any hiccups. This is the future of lift tech, folks.
Silberbrünnl Chairlift Highlights:
-
Direct access to glacier skiing, Gaislachkogl, and Gampe
-
Ideal for repeat runs on gentle blue piste 13
-
AI-powered safety for peace of mind
-
Fully operational by winter 2025/26
