Where to Learn in Wengen

In the past, Wengen wasn’t a great place for beginner children because the ski school offered group lessons in the morning or afternoon, with no lunchtime supervision. This made life difficult for parents with small skiers who consequently never got the chance to explore far afield. All that changed with the arrival of Altitude, Wengen’s British Ski and Snowboard School, who run morning and afternoon tuition for children of three years and over – with optional lunch.

Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Wengen still runs morning and/or afternoon group lessons, and Privat Ski and Snowboard School offer private lessons by the hour. The beginners’ ski area, Figeller (+41 33 856 85 85), is situated in the centre of Wengen, just behind the Tourist Office.

Non-skiing children are well looked after

The Playhouse is an English-speaking kindergarten caring for children from 18 months to seven years old at the Sport Pavilion. It has flexible hours, so children can be dropped off at anytime. Snowli Kids Club is at the top of Mannlichen and accepts non-skiers from four weeks to eight years of age.

During high season the Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Wengen, together with the local tourist board, organises a weekly children’s party in Hasenstall, at the Hotel Silberhorn, for children up to the age of 15 years.

A variety of ski courses for adults – and heli-skiing too

Altitude runs group and private lessons in skiing and snowboarding, and performance coaching for off-piste, bumps, racing and freestyle. Heli-skiing is also on offer, as is mountain guiding and instructor training courses.

Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Wengen offers morning and afternoon group lessons from Sunday to Friday, as well as private lessons. Swiss Ski School Kleine Scheidegg is based up the mountain, and Privat Ski and Snowboard School offers private tuition from young English-speaking instructors.
