The Gasteinertal is dotted with welcoming mountain huts serving typical mountain fare. Aeroplanstadl, on the home run to Bad Hofgastein, has to be visited not just for its Apfelstrudl but also for its extraordinarily original Damen and Herren WCs. The Bellevue Alm (+43 6434 3881) is a well-know lunch venue and the cosy Waldgasthof Angertal is known for its homemade Gulaschsuppe.

In the resort, Lutter & Wegner (+43 6434 5101), at Villa Solitude, is a favourite of ours, along with the Fischerstuberl (+43 6434 4505), the Orania Stuberl (+43 6434 2717), and the Medeterran (+39 6434 30004) by the waterfall. Gisela & Co (+43 6434 225350) and the Bahnhofrestaurant (+43 6434 2166) are also recommended. Bellevue Alm (+43 6434 3881) and the Hofkeller (+43 6434 2037245) both specialise in fondue. The restaurant in Hoteldorf Gruner Baum has won awards as one of the outstanding dining rooms in the region, and Dorfhotel Kirchenwirt in Dorfgastein is another Michelin award-winner.
