Les Carroz, much like its neighbour Flaine, is well suited to beginners and families – with a low-key atmosphere and nursery slopes close to the village centre. A beginners’ day pass is available and includes two cable-car return journeys. The pass also allows unlimited use of the Plein Soleil and Cretes drag-lifts and chair-lift.

Once first-timers have progressed a little, they can take the gondola further up the slopes for some longer green runs – Lou Darbes and La Forestiere – which go through the trees and back down to the village again. The two ski and snowboard schools here are recommended: the ESF and ESI Nouvelle Dimension.

The family-orientated resort has been awarded the Famille Plus Montagne classification by Skifrance for the organisation and quality of service offered to children and their families. The Souris Verte (+33 450 47 95 18) and the Loupiots Club (+33 450 90 24 58) are the two creches, which have with outdoor play areas.

The ESF’s Piou Piou Club teaches little ones from three years old and the ESI’s Nouvelle Dimension was praised: “First-rate and the children very well catered for”.

If you have energy left after skiing, or want to take a day off, then there are myriad other activities on offer in and around the village. These include dog sledding, snow shoe walks, ice-skating, snowmobiling, bowling and tobogganing.
