Essential Advice for the Perfect Trip
Morillon is a small Savoyard village built around a 16th-century church in the Giffre Valley. It is very much a family resort, with a small selection of restaurants, shops and bars, and over the years it has managed to retain its individual character. The resort is part of the vast Grand Massif area that also comprises Flaine and the villages of Les Carroz, Samoens, and Sixt – which together boast 265km of piste. The resorts are close to Mont Blanc and consequently have their own favourable microclimate. The short commute from Geneva (about 45 minutes) is another big plus point.
Morillon 1100 (Les Esserts) is a small purpose-built ski station set at above Morillon village, and this is where the Village des Enfants is based. The pedestrianised village can be reached by gondola or by road (eight minute’s drive) from Morillon village.
Sixt Fer a Cheval is classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France for its architecture and the outstanding natural beauty of its surroundings. It has been home to stonecutters since the 15th century. Village life is centred around the 12th-century abbey and there is a handful of shops, a bakery, post office, mini-market, and a few cafes and restaurants. It also has its own small ski area with six lifts, but they are not connected to the main Grand Massif area.
