The Rain in Spain… Has Turned to Snow | Snow Report

Snow Forecast for the Next 3-4- Days

After new snow fell across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland over the weekend the first part of this week will see a rise in temperature and reduced snowfall across much of the Alps.

Mürren, Switzerland is the standout and is set to receive 15-20cm of new snow.

Conditions continue to improve in the French and Spanish Pyrenees and Andorra after steady snowfall this past weekend. Baqueira Beret, Spain is set to receive 10-15cm of new snow through Thursday.

The cold weather continues in Finland, Norway and Sweden with temperatures between -5 to -10C and plenty of sunshine. Myrkdalen, Norway is forecast to receive 20-25cm of new snow through Thursday.

Much of Central and Eastern Europe will see cooler temperatures this week and the chance of 5-15cm of new snow. Poiana Brasov, Romania is set to receive 20-25cm of snow through Thursday.

Further east, the Georgian and Turkish resorts will remain cold with a mix of sun and snow showers through Monday bringing 5-10cm of new snow.

The Scottish resorts will see warmer temperatures and freeze thaw conditions with 10-15cm up high and rain down low.

The East Coast of the USA will see snowfall and colder temperatures at the start of the week followed by warmer weather and rain from Wednesday evening.

The Mountain States of the USA will see snowfall and below freezing temperatures from Tuesday evening. Vail, Colorado is set to receive 15-20cm.

The California resorts will see continued snowfall through the early part of the week, but far lighter than the past ten days.
Further north in Oregon, Washington and Alaska there will be heavier snowfall with accumulations between 40-45cm at Timberline, Oregon, Mount Baker, Washington and Alyeska, Alaska.

Eastern Canada will see snowfall and colder temperatures at the start of the week followed by warmer weather and rain from Wednesday evening.

The mountain provinces of Alberta and British Columbia will see temperatures well below freezing and light accumulations of 5-10cm of new snow.

Whistler Blackcomb will see light rain in the village, but that’s offset by 25-30cm forecast for the alpine through Thursday on top of the 40cm which fell this past weekend.

After heavy snowfall this past week the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido will see 5-10cm of new snow through Thursday.

Honshu will see more than Hokkaido in this storm system with 30-35cm forecast. Happo One in the Hakuba Valley and Shiga Kogen are forecast to get 45-50cm of new snow.

News From Around the Ski World

A number of Spanish ski resorts have announced they’re extending their season after a couple of weeks of low temperatures and heavy snowfall has transformed conditions. The base depths have increased from a meagre 50cm to a mighty 2.5m in some resorts in the Aragonese Pyrenees.

There’s been continued heavy snowfall in the Aosta Valley. I spent the week based in Aosta skiing boot top to knee deep powder at Pila, Cogne and Chervacol. The snow was deeper the further east you went with over a metre falling in the Monterosa ski area. And there was more over the weekend and more on the way.
