All accommodation can be booked through a central reservations office on +376 890 501. In Grandvalira Soldeu the stars are the three hotels that come under the umbrella of Sport Hotels. They are just 50m from the main mountain access gondola. All three are linked internally to the colossal five-storey 500 sq metre Sport Wellness Mountain Spa with its fabulous pillared basement pool. Of the three choices, the most luxurious accommodation is found in Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa, the resort’s first five-star, with 120 suites. Children up to five years old stay free of charge and have the same meals and other services included as their parents. The restaurant is presided over by the famous Catalan chefs Nandu Jubany and Carles Gaig. Then there’s the Sport Hotel and Sport Hotel Village – both with large and comfortable bedrooms.

Hotel Piolets Parc & Spa has comfortable rooms and contains a steak house, swimming-pool and gym. There is also an in-house kids club. Hotel Himalaia Soldeu has been refurbished and has a buffet-style restaurant. Of its 106 guest rooms, some 16 are apartments and 30 are studios. Hotel Soldeu Maistre (+376 801 963) is very clean and comfortable, with an excellent choice of food.

Further out of town, Hotel Euro Esqui is highly recommended by reporters. It is situated in the Incles Valley, between Grandvalira Soldeu and El Tarter, and provides transfers to the Tarter chair 700m away. The hotel has an indoor pool, gym and spa area.

More modest places to stay

The two-star Hotel Bruxelles is highly rated: “A small personal place with the best food in Soldeu – not just my opinion but that of most instructors I’ve talked to,” said a reporter.
Hotel Roc de Sant Miquel is 800m from Soldeu’s main gondola station, with a bus stop at the end of the hotel driveway. It was praised as “a family-run hotel, lower-end in price alone…a little walk from the centre of town but faultless hospitality…a lot of ski instructors taking their exams stay there – we mingled at dinner, and there was such a nice atmosphere.”
