Both the Soldeu and El Tarter ski schools are run by Grandvalira, who operate the main ski schools in the valley. In Soldeu and El Tarter they not only have English-speaking instructors but around 50% of the staff are Australian, Kiwi and British BASI-qualified. The Pro-Tec Coliflor Freestyle Academy runs freestyle camps in the terrain park at El Tarter.
One of the best ski schools in Europe
Grandvalira Soldeu Ski School (+376 890 591) deservedly has the reputation of being the best in Andorra and one of the top half-dozen learning academies in Europe. The set-up is highly praised by readers for its professionalism. Much of this is due to the enthusiasm of its veteran teaching director, Yorkshireman Gordon Standeven. Canillo (+376 890 691) and El Tarter (+376 890 641) also have good reputations. All of them become very crowded over February half-term, so make sure you book in advance.
There are four creches here for children aged between 12 months and four years – at Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, and Grau Roig. The Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo kindergartens only accept children over two years of age, so younger ones have to go to the Grau Roig kindergarten. El Tarter’s snowboard tuition is recommended by reporters as: “a great board school for kids, with consistently friendly, helpful staff”.
