Where to Party in Les Houches

The village of Les Houches is spread out along the main street with most of the buildings located around the town hall and church, the Bellevue and Prarion lifts (about ten minutes’ walk from one lift to the other). Nightlife is limited to several bars, with the most lively at each end of the village – the restaurant/cafe/bar Le Delice which stays open until 2am for drinks and tapas, and the Slalom bar which features Sky Sports and is located in the Slalom hotel. Claudine Sciandra (+33 450 54 38 45) is a friendly local bar which stays open until late. It is run by an erstwhile French beauty queen of the same name, now in her late 60s. The bar in Les Granges d’En Haut and Harry’s bar are the venues to choose for a quiet drink in stylish surroundings.

New bars are starting up in the resort

There are signs that the apres-ski is beginning to improve in Les Houches, with a few young entrepreneurs opening bars and restaurants here. These include the Marmotte Restaurant and Bar (+33 450 54 33 89) and the Pull Up bar (+33 450 54 50 69) which calls itself a ‘rum and karaoke bar’. But if after-dinner entertainment really is your thing, we recommend you head to Chamonix, which is accessible by public bus until midnight and is ten minutes away.

As Les Houches mainly attracts families, the after-skiing activities include more than just bars. There’s an indoor climbing wall here, as well as dog-sledding and an ice skating rink. Proficient skiers can try ski-joering, which is a fun activity that takes place in the late afternoon and where you are pulled along – water-skiing style – behind a horse whilst on skis. This is bookable through Skijoering Mont-Blanc.
