As with nearly all North American resorts, there’s only one major ski school, provided by the resort owners. At this stage, it’s attractively priced in comparison with resorts like Whistler. However, newcomer to the resort is British-owned Alltracks Academy, which runs ski and snowboard improvement courses, and instructor courses here.

Cat skiing operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from December to March, and participants must be a minimum age of 15. Cat/Heli Preparation lessons are available through the ski school and will show you how to pick a line through the trees and conserve energy while making turns that adapt to the terrain. The programme ensures you are well prepared for a cat- or heli-skiing experience.

Not a place to bring the kids just yet

Revelstoke is a place for advanced and expert skiers and boarders to let rip. It’s just starting to get set up for children. There is a handful of gentler trails and the new Outdoors Centre acts as the ski school meeting place and provides a lunchtime space for children enrolled in full-day programmes (skiers aged five years and upwards, snowboarders from eight). There’s a ball pit here, along with a mini-climbing wall and giant TVs. There is also an excellent indoor pool and aquatic centre in Revelstoke town. But this isn’t really what the resort is about – yet. This is bound to change, so watch this space!
