The excellent Schladming ski schools meet at Rohrmoos, and the Planai nursery slopes are well-organised with several gentle blue runs. The lower slopes of Rohrmoos are also well suited to learners. Hopl and Tritscher provide the full range of ski and snowboard lessons. Blue Tomato is the specialist board school. Not an area especially known for its off-piste, but guiding is available from Heli Team Bedarfsflug (+43 3687 81323). Privat Skischule Monte Krah is what it says on the tin, and Freizeit PSO specialises teaching people with disabilities.

With its mainly north-facing slopes, the large number of lifts and 170km of local pistes, the Schladming ski area is a good place for intermediate improvers, with some great cruising runs such as the 4.6km FIS race course and the 8km Hochwurzen run.

A good destination for families

Children Meine Kleine Schule (+43 03687 24407) and Frau Ladreiter (+43 03687 61313) are the resort’s two non-ski kindergartens. Tritscher ski school operates a highly acclaimed ski kindergarten. Teenagers (and others) will enjoy the area’s four snowparks, of which two are in Schladming. Apart from skiing, there are lots of other activities for children, such as special toboggan runs open day and night.

At Kali’s Winter Wonderland in Ramsau, children and adults are both entertained by a combination of art and winter sports. Every lift has a fairytale theme viewed through the eyes of children. Kids can also try snowshoeing, ice-skating, learn ice-climbing and how to build an igloo. The ski schools here offering children’s classes include Skischule Ramsau, Skischule Pitzer, and WM Schischule Royer Manfred.
