The ski school is highly-rated – as with most North American resorts, there’s only one, which is run by the resort – the Sun Peaks Sports School. Reports tend to be very favourable: “Ski school was really good”, said one visitor. As well as the usual group and private lessons there are Nordic clinics, freestyle programmes, ski and snowboard instructor training (courses lasting three to 18 weeks), a ladies programme, and adaptive sports classes. Prices compare well with top-notch Anglophone lessons in the Alps and the US, too.
For Brits, it’s a long way to bring your brood…
However, once you get there, you’ll be grateful for the compact layout, and wide range of childcare options. Among the services on offer are the Sundance Playschool which cares for babies from 18 months, Sun Tots which gives private ski lessons from three years, and Sun Kids which accepts children from six years for skiing and eight years for snowboarding (“Seven- and ten-year-old novices were skiing blacks in less than ten days,” says one reporter). The Kids Ranch, an animated theme park, opened recently at the top of the Village Platter, and there’s plenty more to keep the young ‘uns, amused, from dog-sledding to a bungee trampoline.
