It’s a BIG weekend of opening days across Europe and North America, with France and Italy joining the party.
Despite heavy rain at village level at some Alpine resorts, the higher lifts and slopes have received plenty of new snow which has allowed a number of resorts to open earlier than planned.
The French resorts of Chamonix, Tignes and Val Thorens, and the Italian resorts of Livigno, Madonna di Campiglio, Passo Tonale and the Presena Glacier all open on 18 November.
The opening of Obergurgl and Schladming on the 16 November, and Kitzbuhel on the 18, will take the Austrian total to ten.
Davos opens on Friday 17 November with Engelberg Titlis, Grimentz-Zinal, Verbier all opening on the 18 November taking the Swiss total to seven.
Further north, Salen in Sweden starts spinning the lifts on the 17 November, with Trysil, Norway a day later on the 18 November.
Across the pond, Brian Head and Park City in Utah open tomorrow (17 November) taking Utah’s offerings to three.
Stowe, Sugarbush and Sugarloaf join Killington as the East Coast Vermont resorts open for play.
Last but not least, Sun Peaks is the first resort to open in British Columbia, Canada.
Organisers are keeping everything crossed that the Women’s Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening World Cup Downhill races on 18 & 19 November will go ahead after training was cancelled earlier this week.

The Nordic resorts continue to open up more terrain thanks to snow making and natural snowfall.

SNOW FORECAST FOR THE NEXT 3-4 DAYS
The freezing level continues to fluctuate across the Alps in the coming days, with a mixture of snow at altitudes above 2,000m and rain below that.
The Nordic countries will see consistent below freezing temperatures and clear skies in the coming days, with a storm system forecast Sunday into Monday.
The East Coast of the US and Canada will see mostly sunny skies with little to no precipitation over the next 3-4 days.
The West Coast and mountain states and provinces will see cold and sunny conditions with a storm rolling through Sunday night into Monday.
