Where to Stay in Neustift

Neustift is the main village in the valley, and the best base for a family holiday by a long chalk. As well as being the base in the valley for family-skiing specialist Esprit Ski, it’s also home to nursery slopes, indoor tennis and swimming, curling, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides and a 9km toboggan run.

The gorgeous Spa-Hotel Jagdhof has delicious food, a great spa, and a free shuttle-bus to and from the slopes. It is one of the focal points of the Neustift village centre, and the hotel houses a nightclub and creche, as well as an ice-curling rink in the garden.

Alpenhotel Tirolerhof is said to be a “friendly, family-run hotel, with good food, excellent service and clean accommodation”. It has an in-house nanny. Most things you need are available at Sporthotel Neustift, from a spa and heated pool to an in-house nanny and an entire floor for non-smokers.

The only reason to stay in Mutterberg, at the far end of the valley, is if you’re skiing the glacier all day, every day. It’s super-convenient for that, and nothing else. Alpensporthotel Mutterberg is the comfortable hotel there for keen skiers who prefer to stay at the base of the Stubai lifts.

Staying at Fulpmes, near the Schlick 2000 ski area

Another of the Stubai valley’s villages is Fulpmes, at the bottom of the lifts to the Schlick 2000 ski area – a nice, but limited area of pistes that would do for a day or two of skiing. Alpenhotel Tirolerhof is no relation to the hotel of the same name in Neustift. It has been recently refurbished in a rustic style. Sporthotel Cristall is a traditional Tirolean hotel, with a swimming-pool and wellness centre.
