The Stubai has five ski schools: Neustift Stubaier Gletscher, Neustift Olympia, Alpin Schischule Neustift, Stubai, and Fulpmes ski school. The Stubaivalley Mountaineering School has been taking people ski-touring and off-piste in the area for 25 years. The other school for off-piste is Freeride Center Stubai, which runs special courses such as Avalanche Weekend Camp, Young Guns, Piste to Powder, and ski-touring. Moreboards Stubai Zoo is the snow park on the glacier.

“If you are a complete beginner, there are probably much better places to learn,” says a reporter. “I was the only Brit in my group and often listened to a five-minute explanation in German of the exercises, followed by the short English version. But there are some good instructors who make an effort to teach good technique”.

However, it’s as a family-skiing destination that Neustift and the Stubai valley come into their own. That said, there are lots of child-friendly facilities in the village anyway, including nursery slopes, toboggan runs, an indoor swimming-pool at the Sport Centre, and sleigh rides. Meanwhile, the Spa-Hotel Jagdhof offers childcare for its small guests from four to 12 years, including all meals, games and entertainment six days a week.

Up on the glacier, BIG Family Children and Youth Ski Camp is part of the Neustift Stubaier Gletscher ski school. The kindergarten takes little ones from three years. There is also a separate kids’ ski area in the BIG Family Kinderland with three magic carpets, the BIG children’s restaurant, and BIG Family Boardercross. Ronny’s Children’s Land is the equivalent up at Schlick 2000 above Fulpmes.
