With children back at school and the new university academic year just beginning, it’s a sure sign that summer is over…and the ski season will be upon us in less than 12 weeks’ time. If you’re thinking about planning your ski holiday, then keep a close eye on this page.

Les Gets from £1,239pp and yoga with VIP SKI
Altitude Lodge is a wonderful base from which to explore the traditional town of Les Gets. This ski-in ski-out chalet-hotel is located next to the lifts and is home to a wet suite with a sauna, massage room and access to the outdoor hot tub. To prepare for a long day on the pistes, the resort has introduced new ski warm-up yoga sessions with instructor Barbara Porret. Simply wear leggings under ski trousers and enjoy a 30- to 60-minute session to warm up the body before exploring the slopes. Sessions will take place on the Grande Ourse restaurant terrace at 1750 metres. A seven-night stay, arriving January 6, is priced from £1,239pp (down from £1,339pp, saving £100pp) for chalet-board accommodation, flights from Gatwick and coach transfers. Mayrhofen in December for £999pp and 2-for-1 equipment hire with SNO
Save up to 20% off packages departing in December, with a seven-night stay in Mayrhofen’s Elisabeth Hotel reduced from £1,248pp to £999pp on the week beginning December 15. Manchester flights, resort transfers and half board accommodation are all included in the holiday, which comes with a 2-for-1 equipment hire deal. Flaine self-catering from £39pp with Ski France
Save 40% with an early-season stay at Résidence Les Terrasses de Veret in the village of Flaine-Fôret, which enjoys good snow even from early on in the season. Located next to the Grands Vans chair-lift as well as the ESF ski school, the self-catered residence makes skiing hassle-free. There’s a sauna and indoor pool, outdoor Jacuzzi and a lounge with fireplace. A seven-night stay, from December 8, costs from £39pp (£155 total – was £258 total, saving 40%) based on four people sharing a one-bedroom apartment. Val d’Isere from £919pp with Inghams
Resting at the foot of the slopes in La Daille is Val d’Isere’s newly renovated four-star Hotel La Tovière. Families and keen skiers will benefit from convenient access to the new gondola opening this season, which is just a short walk from the hotel. With the option to purchase lift passes from reception, Hotel La Tovière makes for a stress-free skiing experience. There’s a new 250 m2 wellness area, with swimming-pool, sauna, hammam, and treatment rooms. The hotel’s ground floor has a games room, children’s play area and a library. A seven-night stay B&B is from £919pp including return flights and airport transfers. A six-day lift pass for the Val d’Isere-Tignes region costs from £264pp. Bookings: Inghams.

Val Thorens early season with Erna Low
Self-drive ski specialists Erna Low have some great discounts available for early season skiing in Val Thorens if you can’t wait to get back on the slopes. Escape the week before Christmas and you can get a self-drive package including accommodation and Eurotunnel Flexiplus crossings at the four-star Le Hameau du Kashmir residence for £379pp including a 10% discount (based on four sharing a two-bedroom apartment, arrival on December 15 for seven nights). Niseko from £2,395pp with Ski Safari
Skye Niseko is a smart ski-in ski-out property offering 105 rooms comprising studios, suites and a penthouse.
