Sorry folks! The competition has now closed!

Holy moly, Snowfiends, it’s competition time again – and Welove2ski is giving you another chance to win a ski holiday! This time, we’re offering the winner and one guest the chance to sample the uncrowded pistes and relaxed, edge-of-the-world atmosphere of Are in Sweden. It’s one of our favourite ski towns: a pretty, low-rise place, set in a big, under-populated landscape. It’s also home to several superb restaurants.

There’s some good skiing here, too. The highlight comes courtesy of the steep, fall-line pistes in the heart of the ski area – a couple of which are used for World Cup racing. Some are lined with dazzling floodlights, too – which makes the night skiing exceptional. Elsewhere, off top of the Areskutan, you’ll find several long off-piste descents (dependent, of course, on the condition of the snow), and – on the outer edges of the ski area – areas of intermediate pistes which are often blissfuly quiet, mid-week.

There are plenty of other things to do here. In fact, Are, Sweden is often sold as a place to try all the other things people get up to outdoors in the winter – snowmobiling, dog-sledding, cross-country skiing and such. They’re all fun to try: but in our opinion what makes this place really special is the combination of empty, northern landscapes and the friendly vibe in town.

Right, that’s enough about why we like the place. On to the competition! All you have to do is answer the question correctly, and your name will go into our prize draw. Up for grabs are two return flights from Gatwick to Trondheim in Norway, courtesy of Norwegian, a week’s self-catering accommodation in the Brunkulla apartments, and two six-day lift passes to Are’s 100km of piste.

The prize can be taken on one of the following weeks, starting January 20, January 27, February 3, April 7, April 14 or April 21, 2013.

You must enter using the form below – and if you’re right, your name will go into our prize draw. We’re closing the book on entries at noon on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, and will announce the winner on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Please make sure you agree with our terms and conditions before entering.

Ready? Here’s the question.

When did Are last host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships?

  • 2007
  • 1954
  • 1907

So, just to recap. If you win our competition, you’ll get a pair of return flights from London Gatwick to Trondheim with Norwegian, which flies direct to the Norwegian city up to five times a week, with prices starting from £104 return (flights for the winners may however involve a change of planes in Oslo). You’ll also win self-catering accommodation for two in the roomy Brunkulla self-catering apartments, which are a ten-minute walk from the central square in town, and a five-minute walk from the key VM8 chairlift. And you’ll get two six-day lift passes to Are’s ski area, too. Sadly, return transfers from Trondheim to Are aren’t included in the prize. But still, it’s not a bad result for clicking on a couple of buttons in your coffee break…

Good luck!
