“All the ski schools have different meeting points, so if you want to avoid a trek with skis in the morning choose one which meets near your hotel,” recommends a reporter. Competition among teaching academies is healthily high, but of the seven main schools, Krallinger is most favoured by tour operators. CSA Willi Grillitsch, Frau Holle, Koch and Top are all worthy contenders. Blue-Tomato is for boarders, and Hang On is for kite-boarding.

Obertauern is Austria’s only resort where you can ski to and from the door of most of its hotels. The childcare and beginner ski school facilities are good, making this is an ideal choice for families and mixed ability groups. Children up to three years of age are looked after in the Petzi Bear creche, hourly or for the whole day. CSA Willi Grillitsch has a non-ski kindergarten. All the ski schools run their own ski kindergartens.
