Obertauern has lots of apres-ski and late-night bars and has been known for its nightlife ever since the Beatles made part of their film Help here in 1965. The Edelweissalm Chalet and the Achenrainhütte are lively in the late afternoon. “Make sure you’re at the Edelweissalm by 3.30pm for a table, then you need to be prepared to climb on top of the table by 4pm when the Euro-pop starts – and dance,” said a reader.
The Lürzer Alm Ski-Hut is central to the evening action with a rustic yet fashionable ski-hut atmosphere; there’s dancing here into the early hours. The action then progresses to Monkey’s Heaven, which has a choice of 250 different cocktails and 300 different spirits. Gruber Stadl bar (+43 6456 7288 607) was said to be ‘fun’. Try also Nanu Bar, People Bar in Hotel Frau Holle, and L’Atchen Alm. Römerbar is a popular venue and Taverne a lively disco. The night-skiing on Thursday and Tuesday is rated ‘awesome’.
Non-skiing activities include bowling, squash, indoor tennis, a fitness centre, and sleigh rides, while another evening activity is floodlit night-skiing.
