Many of the modern, chalet-style hotels are ski-in ski-out and many are rated four-star. These include Hotel Römerhof, which has modern bedrooms, an in-house ski shop, and a piste-side terrace. It’s linked to the piste by a ski bridge. Skihotel Krallinger is a small B&B that is “very friendly and central”; The Krallinger ski school meets outside the door.

If you are looking for luxury, head for Hotel Kohlmayr Royal. It is set close to the resort centre and lifts, with large comfortable bedrooms. “A great hotel. Food is exceptional and it’s convenient for slope access”, said a reader. Hotel Latchenhof was said to be “very comfortable, with good and plentiful food, and an excellent bar”.

Hotel Rigele Royal has spacious rooms and apartments, and a spa (“comfortable and good value. I loved the indoor-outdoor pool”). It’s well suited to families, with a children’s playroom and games room, the children’s ski school right by the hotel, baby monitors and babysitting on offer. A wide range of diets are catered for, from fluter-free to vegetarian and vegan.

Sporthotel Edelweiss, set beside the nursery slope, is one of the trio of hotels here run by Luerzer Ferien group. Cinderella Spa & Resort is decorated true to its fairytale name: the dining room has low turreted walls painted with pastel frescoes.

Hotel Petersbuehel has a 300m² spa with an outdoor snow cave. Hotel Alpenland has the cross-country trails starting just outside the door. Hotel Alpina receives rave reviews: “A really lovely family-run boutique hotel. The personal touch and dedication of the owners is evident throughout…”

Two more unusual offerings are Sportinghotel Marietta, a lavish place at the foot of the slopes, with an indoor pool and spa. Its 800 Grill restaurant has an 800C infrared grill and a ‘live cooking bar’ where you create your personal menu by selecting from the salad bar and soup ‘station’, with main courses like fish, meat and wok dishes freshly prepared in front of you.

Ski-in ski-out Enzian Hotel & Zirbenspa is a four-star with a difference. Zirbe scented Swiss pine is used throughout the hotel and in the four-storey spa. As well as providing adult and children’s bathrobes in all the rooms, the spa also has a special children’s sauna.
