‘Christmas planning, general election, New Year parties…once they’re all over the best thing to do is go skiing and regenerate,’ says Nick Morgan of Le Ski. The snow is spectacular in many resorts at the moment, so you could set off on a ski holiday even earlier than that. And if you happen to be opening a new ski school, you probably couldn’t have chosen a better winter in which to do so in the past 25 years. With record February-like snow conditions in the higher resorts, huge demand for December skiing is going through the roof. Plenty of bargain deals are on offer as skiers heading to the higher resorts in unprecedented numbers to take advantage of bumper snowfalls.

Val d’Isere has got less cover than the Austrian Tirol, but with already the best part of a metre in town and double that at the top of the ski area, who is complaining? Certainly not Ralph Evin who opened his new school Prosneige here today with a flurry of instant bookings.

As well as looking through the deals below, it’s also worth seeing what the ski specialist travel agencies have on offer, such as SNO, Snowfinders and Ski in Luxury. Most of the major tour operators have ski holiday deals available throughout the winter, too.

La Tania Christmas from £799pp with Le Ski

It sleeps 23 and all 10 bedrooms have wooden floors and ensuite bathrooms. The mixture of twin, triple and family bedrooms means the chalet is a flexible option for families and groups. Le Ski’s childcare programme sometimes uses part of the chalet’s ground floor. There are still 18 beds available on the week starting December 22 for £799pp (was £1,288pp) chalet board, including flights and resort transfers. Bookings: Le Ski.
