Situated at stage 20 of the Eagle Walk – a 413km trail that spans the whole length of the Austrian Tirol – the Württemberger Haus offers hikers a remote place to stay during the summer. The only way to reach the hut is by five-hour ascent on foot, either from Zams near Landeck or from Gramais or Madau in the Lechtal Valley. However, good climbers are rewarded with views across the valley and a refreshing alpine lake. Inside the hut, wholesome traditional cuisine is served and there are comfortable beds for the night. There is no wifi and limited mobile phone reception here, which could be an added bonus! You’ve got to buy a ski pass, it’s just an expense of your ski holiday, except if you book one of The Alpine Club’s boutique chalets for Christmas.
