The mountainside is dotted with welcoming huts at lunchtime. In the Flachau area try Schihutte Hoflalm, Hubertusalm and the Griessenkar Hutte. In the Wagrain area, Almstadl is recommended. Above Altenmarkt Arlhofhutte has lots of atmosphere, as does Hochnössleralm.

In the evening head for Wagrain’s Gasthof Kalkhofen, which dates back to the 16th century and serves traditional Salzburgerland dishes. Mennerhäusl is also recommended.

In Flachau, Alter Jagdhof is a family restaurant serving mainly Italian cuisine. The rustic Hoagascht–Das restaurant offers Asian, Italian and Austrian dishes. Hotel Schartner, in Altenmarkt, is famed for its modern Austrian cuisine. Its chefs are the hotel owner and his wife, and they incorporate fresh, locally-sourced produce.
