Wagrain’s returning skiers head for the outdoor Schirmbar at the end of the day. Later on there’s AlmMonte for live music, pizzas and snacks. The Kuhstall is extremely lively. You can dance on the floor or on the tables at the Tenne. There’s an indoor climbing-wall, ice-skating and curling available. Up the mountain above Altenmarkt is Arlhofhutte with a DJ and table dancing.

In Flachau, Franzl’s Schirmbar (+43 06457 2957) and the Bergwerk pub/restaurant (+43 06457 2445) are two of the hotspots. Ema’s Pub sometimes holds poker tournaments and Dampfkessel has live entertainment. Late-nighters dance at Yeti’s Partyhaus in Schlosshotel Lacknerhof. For non-ski activities Flachau makes a good base, with everything from zorbing to taking a sleigh ride on offer.

Altenmarkt’s apres spots include Napa Valley pub and lounge, S’Kessei in Hotel Kesselgrub and Webers Bar-Cafe (+43 06452 694435). St Johann has “plenty of places to eat out, and shops for the girls,” said a reporter.
