In a Nutshell

Good-value village with snowsure skiing from late October until early May, as well as year-round skiing on the glacier.

Essential Advice for the Perfect Trip

Passo Tonale is situated at the western end of the Val di Sole and its high altitude makes it one of the most snowsure resorts in Italy. As well as this, a dozen new lifts have transformed mountain access in recent years. National ski teams train here, and it has a strong international following. The resort opens from late October until the beginning of May. When conditions permit, summer skiing continues throughout the year on the Presena Glacier. Lift queues are not a problem here. “Christmas week the apres-ski was practically non-existent, but, on the bright side, there were no lift queues,” said a reporter, and “There were no lift queues to speak of even though it was the New Year holiday period,” added another.

Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the prices here. “The prices in bars and restaurants are around half of what you would expect to pay in say Les Arcs or Tignes,” said a reporter.
