Where to Stay in Sainte Foy

The authorities have done a great job in Sainte Foy – regulating the style, and above all the size of buildings in the later spurt of development, so there are none of the bulky and intrusive apartment blocks you’ll find in Val, Tignes or Les Arcs. They’ve also been laid out so you can always stay near the pistes.

Lovely Chalets at Lower Prices Than Neighbouring Resorts

One of the best things about Sainte Foy is its stock of recently-built chalets and chalet-hotels. For pure swank, they can’t match the gazillionaire-friendly pads of Val d’Isere, Courchevel or Meribel. But they’ll delight most parties of normal skiers, and are cheaper than comparable properties in other resorts.

Yellowstone Lodge.

An upmarket chalet is Yellowstone Lodge, which calls itself a boutique hotel but, although you can book the rooms separately, we class it as a chalet because it only has six bedrooms. The interior is beautifully decorated with leather, faux fur throws, and wildlife safari paintings – all contrasting with old wooden beams and local slate. You should also consider The Peak – a new-build chalet-hotel in the heart of Sainte Foy, with spectacular views across the valley from its large balconies on each of the four floors. It has eight suites and a wellness centre.

Chalet La Tillette has lots of space and light, with four large and very comfortable ensuite bedrooms. It’s owned and run by two former British snowboarding champions. Or how about the sumptuous Chalet du Rassel? It’s a free-standing chalet in its own grounds with 10 double bedrooms all decorated using reclaimed wood, and there’s a sauna and massage treatment room too.

A Good Stock of Self-Catering Properties, Too

As ever, self-catering apartments and chalets are cheaper than those where the cooking is done for you. In Sainte Foy, most are a vast improvement on the system-built shoe boxes you’ll find in other French resorts.

Residence Les Fermes de Sainte Foy is a development of luxury apartments in a chalet-style building that combine warm and welcoming decoration with plenty of space. The building houses an indoor swimming-pool and a good spa. The Ruitor is a similarly comfortable apartment complex, also with an indoor pool.
