Spring is approaching, and with that comes longer days and sunny lunches sitting on terraces outside mountain restaurants. March and April are great months to go skiing: the pistes are emptier than at many other times of year, and the warmer weather makes it a great time for learning to ski. Accommodation prices can be lower, too.

As well as taking a look at the deals below, it’s also worth checking the websites of the major tour operators. Make sure you stay safe: take local advice and have all the necessary equipment with you before even considering leaving the marked piste.

March Skiing

Vaujany from £732 with Ski Peak
Save over £230pp at Chalet Saskia in Vaujany. The lovely alpine chalet has a brand news eight-person sauna and state-of-the-art hot tub on the terrace, as well as extremely high quality cuisine. The price offered is for half board for the weeks starting March 4 and 11. Group bookings receive further discounts. Bookings: Ski Peak.

Val d’Isere for £799pp with Le Ski
Spend a week at Chalet La Saulire in Val d’Isere for £799pp (it was £866pp) chalet half board on the week starting March 19. The price includes flights from Gatwick or Manchester, and resort transfers. The chalet is in an enclave with a few others, sleeps 14 people, and has a shared hot tub. Bookings: Le Ski.

St Anton whole chalet for 12,555€ with Kaluma
Stay for a week in Chalet Ariane in St Anton, where the lovely chalet has three en suite bedrooms and a spa area. On the week starting March 26 the whole catered chalet now costs 12,555€ (it was 15,625€). Travel is not included. Bookings: Kaluma.

La Rosiere from £449pp with Ski Beat
The operator has reduced the price of a week’s ski holiday in every one of their catered chalets, for every departure date, in 11 top French ski resorts, from now until the end of the season. Bookings must be made by March 2. Prices include chalet half board, return Gatwick or Manchester flights and resort transfers. For example, the offers represent a saving of £420pp on a week’s stay in La Rosiere at Chalet Papillon, now £449pp (it was £869pp) with departure from Gatwick on March 25. For March 19 departures, the operator has removed the Heathrow flight supplement, which is usually £35pp, so a week’s stay at Chalet Hotel Christina in La Plagne is now from £849pp and at Chalet Hotel L’Ecrin in Tignes from £999pp. Departures on March 26 have free child places at Chalet Hotels Val d’Isere, Aiguille Percee, Tarentaise, Berangere and Christina. Enjoy three days of skiing on this weekday package, which includes flights and transfers for £419pp starting on Monday March 13. The chalet sleeps 10 people and is in a quiet area of Les Gets. Meribel from £414pp with Skiworld
For the week commencing March 18, stay at Residence Les Sentiers du Tueda in Meribel, which sleeps up to six people (with one separate bedroom). It now costs £414.38pp, saving £50pp. There are other reductions on dates right up to the end of the season, so those who have not yet booked can still bag good value holiday this season. April Skiing

Megeve from £550pp with Stanford Ski
There’s 20% off week-long ski passes and 10% off short breaks from April 3 in the lovely old town of Megeve. For example, a six-day family pass starts at £143 per adult and £115 per child (minimum four passes bought together including minimum two children). Prices on the week of March 26 are now £550pp in Chalet Sylvana. A few rooms are available on the week of April 2 in chalet-hotel Rond Point for £560pp. On April 9 it is £650pp in chalet Les Clochettes, £490pp in chalet-hotel Rond Point and £480pp in Sylvana.
