In several areas the warning level is 5/5, and resorts are currently cut off.

In the French Alps they could do with some more snow. In Austria, they wish it would stop.

But Austria and eastern Switzerland will still get the lion's share of the white stuff.

The weather is unlikely to change before Sunday afternoon.

The north-eastern quarter of the Alps has turned wintry, while the sun shines elsewhere.

As ever, altitude is your ally at this time of year.

In places, the avalanche risk is now 4/5.

More snow is expected this weekend, and a significant drop in temperature.

But it will be raining lower down this week. Thank goodness a colder spell is on its way...

Mother Nature has hit the pause button. But cooler weather should come next week.
