In last week’s snow report, we looked at the improving conditions in the ski fields of New Zealand. This week, there’s more of the same – thanks to a weekend of snow that dropped 10-20cm in many resorts.
Here’s how it was looking at Coronet Peak yesterday.
After a shaky start to winter, the Queenstown resort now has 35-110cm of the white stuff packed down on its trails.
Meanwhile, near Wanaka, Cardrona reported 17cm of new snow over the weekend, and posted this photo of pristine slopes earlier today.
There should be more snow this week. The latest forecast from NZ’s Metservice says, “a few fronts moving up the country this week are expected to bring further wintry temperatures.” The South Island in particular is expecting a cold snap. Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday should all see snow falling at altitude.
Meanwhile, in Australia, the Snowy Mountains have got snowy again, following a sharp thaw last week. This was Perisher first thing this morning…

20-25cm of snow has fallen so far – and some forecasters are predicting a total of 50cm by Thursday.
It’s been snowing hard in the Andes, too. This was Valle Nevado in Chile yesterday evening.
In the Argentinian resort of Las Lenas there was so much so on Saturday and Saturday night they had to shut several lifts because of the avalanche risk.

This week, it’s going to stay hot: but there will be clouds bubbling up during the course of the day, so the mornings are the best time to be out. Showers, some of them thundery, are likely to be a feature of the afternoons.
