It’s been a rotten summer so far in the UK and across much of the rest of Europe, with snow forecast down to 1400m in the Alps this week. The Tour de France had to cancel the climb of Mont Ventoux today, because of 120kph winds. Is someone trying to tell us something? Let’s go skiing!

Sun Peaks from £926pp with Crystal Ski
Canada’s second largest ski area, Sun Peaks, is located in the interior of the province and receives on average nearly six meters of light, dry powder snow every winter. Stay here from £926pp at Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge with Air Canada flights from Heathrow to Kamloops via Calgary departing March 22, and including transfers. Morzine for £781pp with Alpine Elements
Grab an early bird ski deal this Christmas and New Year – with the second person going for half price, from £449pp including flights, transfers and half board. The offer is only bookable over the phone and ends on August 1. For example, a week in Morzine commencing December 24 is now £781pp with a second person going for half price and kids skiing for free. Les Deux Alpes all-inclusive New Year for £1,035 with Club Med
With a departure on December 31 from Luton to Les Deux Alpes, you can take a seven-night all-inclusive ski holiday that will cost £1,109 per adult (was £1,229) which is a saving of £120, and £929 per child (was £1,035) so a saving of £106. Alpe d’Huez from £367pp with Madame Vacances
With its extensive slopes at high altitude, efficient lift system and lively apres ski, Alpe d’Huez is a good destination for a large group. Situated 500 metres from the centre of the resort, Les Chalets de L’Altiport offers easy access to the ski slopes, bars, restaurants and shops. This four-star residence offers luxurious self-catered apartments with access to the Ô des Cîmes Spa Centre, a five-minute walk to the town centre. Price is based on the week commencing January 7. Multi-generational ski holidays in Morzine from £649pp with VIP Ski
For families looking for a centrally located, spacious chalet that accommodates babies to grandparents, Chalet Berger in Morzine could be just the place. The five-bedroom lodge, which sleeps up to ten people, sits at the heart of Morzine. The living area has soft sofas and an avant-garde log burning stove, that provides the perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes. There’s a cinema/media room on the lower floor, and a sunken hot tub on the terrace. Priced from £649pp for a week’s catered accommodation arriving December 12. Flaine apartment for £800 with Pierre & Vacances
The prestigious ski-in ski-out residence, Les Terrasses d’Hélios in Flaine, offers incredible views of the mountains and outstanding comfort. During the day, explore the Grand Massif ski area, with 69 lifts and 265km of piste. You can also visit the well-being area which includes a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool, as well as the Deep Nature Spa. Everything you need is available on site, from ski hire to a mini-market, to the nursery which can care for children (open six days a week, closed on Saturday). Priced at £800 per apartment (down from £1,030, so saving more than 20%) for a week’s stay in a standard one-bedroom apartment that sleeps up to four people arriving January 7. Whistler from £1,433pp with Erna Low
Stay seven nights from February 18, based on two adults and two children sharing a one-bedroom suite, from £1,433 per adult and £568 per child. The dates are from January 30 to February 3, or February 27 to March 3, ‘Masters’ can join in with seminars, wine tasting, apres high tea, and sleigh rides.
